CW: sexual harassment in virtual worlds

Sure, it's bad enough that female #
avatars, including those owned by reporters, were harassed during that beta presentation of #
HorizonWorlds.
But let's face it, it isn't that much different from your first few minutes in #
SecondLife if you're a newbie with a female #
avatar who doesn't know how to escape to somewhere else quickly enough. So Second Life had this first, too. The one "advantage" that Horizon Worlds has over Second Life in this regard is that you can't directly control your limbs and thereby
actually touch other avatars in the latter. But you can act it out in chat or try and find an animation that does that for you.
In worlds based on #
OpenSim, in the meantime, new female avatars are rather safe from immediate harassment because chances are good that it'll take them long enough to encounter another avatar for the first time that they can completely re-style themselves in the meantime. The only grid where your brand-new avatar is quite certain to land in the company of other avatars right away is #
OSgrid with its Lbsa Plaza, and harassment is one of the few things I haven't heard of happening there, also because there are often more female than male avatars present.
By the way, does Horizon Worlds already have female avatars who are guys in real life? Because Second Life does, and how. And OpenSim even more so because there are practically no limits for creating alts.
