Until today, I used
[observer.language=]
tags in my profile to make it bilingual. German-speaking visitors would see it in German, everyone else would see it in English. Obviously, this would only work for visitors authenticated by OpenWebAuth at most.
But then I saw the side-effects. Mastodon showed my German self-description, and Fediverse.info still does. That was because I put German first and non-German last. So I switched them around. Earlier today, it turned out that Mastodon didn't show any self-description anymore.
So what I did instead was create a second profile in German, make the main profile English only and assign the German profile to all my German connections. Including those on Friendica, just to see if OpenWebAuth has the desired effect on them. And including everyone else, also to see what OpenWebAuth will do once Mastodon adopts it.
It actually makes sense for me to only put my English profile up front since I mostly write in English.
Now I'm waiting for Fediverse.info to re-scan my channel and upgrade their info about me.
