...why does nobody talk about OpenSim then?

...and even completely new news sites popping up that cover the #
Metaverse, how can it be none of these sites
ever mention #
OpenSimulator?
Is it because it's so old?
Can't be because #SecondLife gets its share of news coverage, too, once news sites understand that the term "Metaverse" applies to it as well.Is it because it's so small?
Can't be because even smaller #VirtualWorlds are being covered. Is it because a virtual world has to throw buzzwords like "Metaverse", "blockchain" and "cryptocurrency" around?
Nope, because Second Life uses neither a blockchain nor cryptocurrencies (nor NFTs) either. And OpenSim has actually been using the term "Metaverse" before everyone else except for Neal Stephenson. Is it because it's considered a lawless hive of piracy?
Maybe, but #OpenSim has got this reputation only amongst SL users. Is it because it's non-commercial and not backed by a profit-oriented company?
Could be, seeing as how many IT news sites seem to never speak of #FLOSS at all except for maybe Firefox. But this also means that OpenSim doesn't have an advertising department which leads to the last point.Or is it simply because absolutely nobody knows that OpenSim exists in the first place?
Very likely. OpenSim is developed by a small bunch of individuals in their spare time. There's neither a profit-oriented company nor even a foundation behind it. It doesn't have an advertising budget, and the devs don't advertise it at all either. It's 100% grass-roots.So VR news media's most likely reaction upon discovering OpenSim is probably not, "No CEO, no coverage," but, "Wait, this exists?!"
