The #
Twexodus makes the widely known Mastodon instances burst out of their seams. Word is out that there is not only Mastodon in the Fediverse. And I've read that some people think about creating and sharing their own personal or community instance, but are not familiar or confident with the Command Line Interface to a root or virtual private server, or on generic webhosting.
Enter
App hosting:
An app-dedicated webhosting, guaranteed to be properly configured, with the app provided as ready-installed by professionals; with a reguar auto-update service (via git), backup service. No command line required. And the possibility to select configuration and addons, as well as to host friends, family, and others to your instance (if you so wish) - which is much more than accounts rental (which is fine, too, but a different use case).
So I'll make a start to contribute
K&T Host, offering a wide range of Open Source apps (including Fediverse servers), e.g. Hubzilla, (streams), Matrix, Nextcloud, Writefreely, Humhub, phpBB, Simple Machines Forum SMF, and
more. They offer fully installed instances ready for websetup, or alternatively on request own SSH-installation using tested manuals (see their
blog). Service has been highly engaged and top notch for me.
Black Friday deal: 70 % on the complete shopping cart including future renewals and future ressource upgrades (core, memory, and disk space upgrades). That makes a Hubzilla or (streams) available for ~1,13 per months (depending on required ressources). That's
per instance (with as many accounts you want to share your ressources with) - not per account.
I know that they are continuously working on providing more Fediverse apps, but currently, there is no microblogging service, yet - So currently, (streams) is the closest to that you will get. Hubzilla can connect to Mastodon users, too, but is much more powerful (and thereful, complex), so it might be better suited for people who want the work with the All-in-One package.
Disclosure for transparency:
I know K&T Host because a friends (who has helped me and others in the Fediverse with a lot of personal engagement) is one of their techs and invited me to do some beta-testing of some of their services I was interested in. For an issue I had raised in (streams) beta, they granted me a free year of (streams) instance. I am not associated more than that. I am simply a customer who happens to know one of their employees. So I thought I'd share it here and invite you all to add more Fediverse instance hosters, especially if you know of attractive Black Friday deals - So we spread the word to easily acquire a Fediverse instance, to people who are not so IT savvy but would volunteer to administrate and maybe offer an own instance.
