I'm wondering how many Mastodon users have already muted or blocked me for not providing a description for one of those preview images Mastodon generates for links. And I'm waiting for someone to scold me for that.

Sorry, but I don't know what a picture Mastodon will put there, if any. I'm not on Mastodon. I'm on Hubzilla. Even though I've got the luxury of a preview button that Mastodon doesn't have, I can't preview what a post will look like on Mastodon.

If they will block you or mute you over something that simple, you probably don't want to interact with them anyway.

@Tejan Ausland Well, being blocked or muted would be harmless.

But I actually expect some Mastodon users to escalate this further. Like, attack me for not providing an image description for an image I had no chance to know that it'll be there. Me who should be infamous for describing images with tens of thousands of characters each.

Or they want the staff of my instance to take care of that problem. But they can't figure out how to find the staff of a Hubzilla hub in a Mastodon mobile app. Yeah, like they'd try a Web browser for that. Even then, they couldn't find out who's the admin. Thus, this instance can safely (by Mastodon's standards) be considered unmoderated. Thus, it should be blocked in its entirety because bad things happen there, and nobody is there to take care of it.

Before you wonder how that could possibly happen, considering this is Hubzilla and not Mastodon: A lot of Mastodon users won't even realise what this is. That this is, in fact, not a Mastodon instance. Especially those for whom the whole Fediverse is Mastodon. Or unfortunately Mastodon and Threads now.

@Jupiter Rowland You are the king of image descriptions. If they attack you for something like that, they need to have their head checked. After all, if they want people to post more image descriptions, attacking people who already post image descriptions is counter-productive. That's how you scare away people so they stop posting images and image descriptions.

I think it is more of a problem of selfishness. They want it their way, and they will attack anyone who does not comply with their demands. It's pure manipulation. You don't want toxic people like this in your timeline. They will bring you down and they will drive you crazy.

If they become too toxic, just block them. It is better for your mental health.

@Regezi Thanks for the service, but I can do that myself by visiting e.g. mastodon.social and searching for one of the hashtags I've used.

In fact, if I waited for someone else to send me a screenshot of my recent post so that I know what image Mastodon decided to use as a preview, the delay between the initial post and the image description edit would be even longer.
