@ChasMusic (he/him) Well, a short description plus a notification that there's a full description elsewhere can be done in the first variant as well. That's how I do it.

Still, there's only so much that you can describe and explain in a maximum of 1,100 characters or so.

@ChasMusic (he/him) If you're on Mastodon, switch them from Public to Unlisted. A few other projects have that setting, too.

I'm on Hubzilla which has nothing to do with Mastodon. I don't have Unlisted, but I don't have a character limit either. Technically speaking, I don't need threads, but I sometimes have to write them because many Mastodon users refuse to read anything over 500 characters.

@ChasMusic (he/him) I guess even you would mind a thread with over 160 single posts. And I'd mind cutting a 77,000-character image post into 160 single posts. And yes, I've once written such a monster with only three images.

I also guess you'd mind me taking three standard Mastodon toots to explain where an image was made.
