Hard to tell how much I'll write this time. I've almost passed the 10,000-character mark, including 3,800 characters only describing one sales box, but I had to describe and explain what's inside it for people to get its outside.

I might be able to save a lot of time and space later by mentioning certain elements of boxes only once. Also, most of the boxes in the first picture will re-appear in the second picture.

I'm trying something else: For the first time, I'm not transcribing all-caps as such in order not to confuse #ScreenReaders. But I'm mentioning when something is written in all-caps.

I just realised that I have dozens of textures to describe. Describing the overall style of a box or an item only once only saves me so many words.

Why do I describe dozens of patterns and prints on blankets and pillows in small pictures within my picture that even sighted people can't see?

Because nobody can see them! And because somebody might want to know what they look like. After all, blind people don't know whether what's in this picture is actually visible to anyone or not, and they don't care. And anyone might be curious about #VirtualWorlds and want to know all kinds of details.

Also, 23,000+ characters. This is my second-longest #ImageDescription so far. And all these patterns will be a pain.

26,000 words. The further I proceed, the harder to describe the patterns seem to become.

I think I'll go to bed and continue tomorrow.

I also think I'm the only #Fediverse user who actually stretches the writing of one #ImageDescription across two days.

And I'm back. Now I hope to be done with the first description before noon and without breaking my #ImageDescription record of 38,650 characters.

14 boxes with content to go, six of them with various fabric textures. The other eight might be rather simple and done quickly unless #Accessibility and the curiosity of random readers demand me to give detailed descriptions of eight woodgrain textures plus plywood which are absolutely invisible to the naked eye in the picture.

I also hope I can really get away with describing and transcribing only once what appears multiple times such as certain labels on boxes. This description would really go completely out of hand if I were to fully describe each one of 30 boxes individually. This would become the first image description in the Fediverse with over 100 individual text transcriptions.

The second picture will only show boxes which are already in the first picture. I do hope I can get away with writing that these boxes have already been described in the image description of the first picture.

I hate describing fabric patterns.

There's a blanket on a picture on the sides of a box. In the final picture, it'll be shown not much larger than six pixels, two wide, three high. I've just used a bit over 1,000 characters to describe only the visible part of that blanket because it has a patchwork-like print. But I'd do the very same thing if it was only a small pillow that'll be less than one pixel in the final picture.

I'm going to pump tens of thousands of characters into describing dozens of textures. And when I'm done, I'm going to mention that not a single one of these textures is actually visible to the naked eye because #Blind and #VisuallyImpaired people won't know that otherwise. But this invisibility due to low resolution is part of the image and thus needs to be described.

Oh, and I won't be nearly done before noon. And since I've just passed 30,000 characters, I'm not sure if I won't break my own record.

There went my record. I'm over 37,000 characters for one #ImageDescription.

On the bright side, I'm almost done describing fabric textures, so chances are I'll stay under 40,000 characters at least.

Nope. I'm over 40,000.

And that's still only one #ImageDescription, not a whole post. At least I hope the second description will be a lot shorter because I won't have to describe the boxes and their contents once more.

Yes, I've broken my #ImageDescription record. The description for the first picture minus the preamble and minus markup has 39,932 characters; necessary preamble included, they're 41,263 characters. The description for the second picture adds 6,757 characters, but it depends on the preamble just as much as it depends on the first description.

I'm not convinced that #AI can do the same right now already. Or that it'll ever be able to do it.

@jupiter_rowland I just wanted to share that this is super cool and amazing and useful that you describe in this much detail!

I'm a details person, myself. So being able to understand everything I can is super helpful to me as one who has always been blind and thus doesn't understand the random details like that.

I'm also going back through various posts; that's why I am seeing this so late.

Just beware: The older they are, the further away they are from my standards of today.
