i have a question to the knowlegeable crowd here. this week i tried to reactivate my old eeepc. it still works, but i soon noticed, why i had lost interest in it two or three years ago: it's teadiously slow. at the moment it is running an old ubuntu version (tusty with kde). i remember having tried lxde back then but haven't been happy with it.

does anybody have a recommendation for a lightweight linux-distri that i could use for this old machine? use case would be: internet, documents, listening to music

any hints would be great!

Hello¡ In my experience, the most lightweight distro I've used with good feeling is Lubuntu. When xubuntu was not very good because of the low resources of the machine lubuntu was better. Father than that, you can try some of the recommendations in the Internet, for example this one: https://www.techradar.com/news/best-lightweight-linux-distro Apparently, something like tinycore should be an interesting option. Something more lightweight I used once, I remember now, is PuppyLinux but the usability should be good for you. I mean, if the software it provides allow you to do your tasks then it could be an option. Puppy is really light.

I have an Eee pc too. He works fine with Arch Linux and Debian 9. I use a SSD instead of the original HDD.

Puppy Linux?

Don't use a DE, they're all slow, even the lightweight ones. Use a window manager such as dwm.

I have an old HP Probook 4515s, with an Amd Sempron cpu, 1GO of memory, the only distro that works on it is AntiX 32bits.

Yeah, for a slow device something with KDE is definitely a wrong choice. There are good tips above. I guess for Internet it might be still slow sometimes as browsers are such monsters nowdays. What I would suggest though, whatever distro it is, try to test a live system first on a usb stick (whatever you like, eg debian based bunsenlabs works that way too).

You can try Bunsenlabs Linux on which you can have fun configuring your machine and your system according to your needs. There is the 32bit version and easy to install and improve.

I'm running mine happily with Solus OS and its budgie desktop but @Miloslav Číž is right, you'd probably be better off having no desktop environement.
