To anyone posting long articles on Mastodon: please, stop it. It's annoying at least. I don't want to scroll multiple pages just to find the next thing. Write a summary and put a link to your personal blog/page.

@Hyblon :cv_yellow: If it's longer than 500 characters, it most likely doesn't come from Mastodon. In case you don't know yet: The Fediverse is not only Mastodon. Neither did the Fediverse start with Mastodon. This is not and has never been the Mastodon Fediverse.

For example, there is also a Facebook alternative named Friendica (https://friendi.ca; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendica; https://joinfediverse.wiki/Friendica). It first came out in May, 2010; that's five years, eight months before Mastodon. It has been federated with Mastodon for as long as Mastodon has been around.

And it has had practically unlimited characters many years before Mastodon joined the Fediverse with only 500 characters.

If Mastodon users are allowed to use Mastodon the Mastodon way, then Friendica users are allowed to use Friendica the Friendica way.

There's also stuff like Pleroma and Akkoma (5,000 characters, configurable), Misskey (3,000 characters, hard-coded) or Sharkey (3,000 characters, configurable) in the "Twitter-like microblogging" area.

There's even full-blown long-form blogging in the Fediverse: WriteFreely, Plume, WordPress can connect to the Fediverse, and Ghost is connected to the Fediverse, too.

@Hyblon :cv_yellow: Also, it seems like you're using Mastodon on a phone with the official Mastodon app.

However, unlike on commercial services, Mastodon's official app is not the one fully featured reference app. It's actually just about the worst Mastodon app. It only exists so that Mastodon newbies can start by loading an app named "Mastodon" from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

It's also the only Mastodon app that can only show long posts at their full length. All third-party apps roll long posts in.

If you're on an iPhone, check @Mona app, @IceCubesApp or @Ivory by Tapbots :emoji_wink:.

If you're on Android, check @Tusky or @Fedilab.

You'll probably discover all-new features of which you didn't know that Mastodon has them.
