Pinned post in channel?

Folks, how to pin a particular post to the top of a channel over here? I'm pretty sure I've seen this done, but I failed to figure out how. Guess I'm missing something entirely trivial... ?

Been there... You have to click the gear icon and select "Pin to top". Only keep in mind that this only works for public posts; that's what threw me off before.

I just tested with both roles, and it worked with both.

It's public if there is no lock icon next to your name.

@Tanja I seem unable to add a picture here for a screenshot, but here's the post. No lock. Also set the channel from "personal" to "public" but it didn't change things... .

@Tanja Ah. I take that back. Apparently I'm unable to "pin" messages in the /channel view, but following right this link, the menu entry is there. So seems it works this way, even while having absolutely no clue why...?

@Kristian Ok, that's a little odd. I just checked on that demo channel, I can do it from either the network page or the channel page.

Re pictures in forums: I use a workaround. First I go to the photos app and upload the picture, making sure it's set to "Public". Then I go to the network page, start a new post, click on "Embed existing...", pick my photo, and then copy / paste the resulting BBCode into my reply on the forum. It's a little tedious, but it does work.
