How can i modify the effect of the connection "ignore" setting?

Ignoring a connection essentially mutes it here, however it also removes their ability to comment, among other things.

How can i modify this behaviour so, that an ignored connection would still be able to comment or send me a DM? Essentially i would like to give certain ignored connections the rights of interaction, while not receiving their posts otherwise.

Edit all your contact roles. Explicitly allow those assigned to them to send you DMs, regardless of whether it's inherited from your channel.
Make a new contact role that does not allow anyone assigned to it to send you DMs.
If your channel role isn't custom, switch it to custom. It should keep its previous settings.
Go to Privacy Settings.
Edit your custom channel role. Disable the channel-issued permission to send DMs.

Protip: Do the same with posts so you can let people follow you without having to actually follow them back.

@_jayrope No, but it substitutes it in doing what you want "ignore" to do.

Basically, you generally deny permission to send you DMs.

Then you grant permission to send you posts to all those whose DMs you want to see via contact roles.

And then you've got one extra "Don't DM me" channel role without this permission for those whose DMs you don't want to receive.

One "quirk" of Hubzilla is that you can't deny a permission per contact role that you've granted per channel role. What's granted per channel role is granted. So you have to deny it per channel role and then grant it to everyone but those whom you want to deny the permission.

@Jupiter Rowland I see your point and appreciate your suggestion, but my point was different. So I've to repeat I would like to customize the function of the "ignore" button. That's to be a press-one-button thing, not a long diddle between different pages of rather lengthy pages of allowances :)

I would like to customize the function of the "ignore" button.

You would need to rewrite quite some chunks of the app to make this happen. The way to do it currently is to create a contact role which does what you need. After that assigning a role to a contact is basically a "press-one-button thing".
