I want to answer (1)-(3). When I go to (4) I have to add (2) and (3) by hand and I have to know the exact handle, perhaps. It seems difficult to. Is there a better way, I don't know?
Or is this in general problem between Mastodon and Hubzilla how people get informed.

@BauerUlli As far as I know, there is no other way to add more mentions than to add them with @... and then selecting them from the selection list that appears.

@BauerUlli Then you may not have to enter the channel name after the @, but the beginning of the handle. The problem is particularly revelvant if one and the same person has several channels on possibly different instances and uses the same channel name.

The issue is that different platforms handle notifications differently.

With Hubzilla, if you make a post and people reply to your post, you get notified even if they did not mention you specifically. You also get notifications about conversations you are participating in (following, liked, or commented on).

Whereas with Mastodon, they don't get notified when you reply to their post unless you specifically mention them. It is mostly because they don't have threads. They only have individual posts that mention each other.

Other platforms may behave differently.

In Hubzilla, you can start typing their handle or their name after the @ sign and it will give you a list of possibilities. If you (or someone on the server) has interacted with them before, you don't have to know their handle if you know their name.

For example, you can search for Der Pepe (Hubzilla) ⁂ ⚝ pepecyb@hub.hubzilla.hu by typing @der or @pep. After you type three or more letters, their channel comes up in a drop down list.

@Scott M. Stolz I'll stick with the above situation. I want to reply to 1 post and 1-3 should be informed. I also click Reply and a text frame opens in which I write, but then I can't see the handle and sometimes not even the name. In the example, I can see the name. I can go back to the post (or I don't know) and stay in the text I'm writing at the same time. Kind of cumbersome.

I would formulate the following feature request: when replying to a post, you can be shown a list of people mentioned in the post and select from that list who is mentioned in the post.

It's really annoying that Mastodon doesn't do this like Hubzilla does. Mastodon lists the handles of the participants when you reply, if I remember correctly.(Translated by a machine from German)

With Friendica, all handles of a thread are automatically entered in the comment box when you have activated this feature.

Couldn't this also be done in Hubzilla?

It would be nice to have a reply button on the main post itself. It may seem redundant, but by pressing it, it could pre-populate the comment form with the person's handle (like it does when you reply to a comment).

Also, it would make it easier to quote the top level post.

@Scott M. Stolz If I've understood it correctly, (streams) has a "silent mention" feature that addresses everyone at least in the branch of a thread that you're replying to without visibly mentioning them.

Could be it has been slimmed down more recently in threads that originated in places with no conversation awareness because too many Mastodon users have complained about receiving comments which, under Mastodon conditions, they wouldn't have received.

@Jupiter Rowland I just did a quick test on social.vivaldi.net (v4.3.1-vivaldimod). My results:

1. If they follow you, it appears on their "Home" stream, which I believe is where they see posts of people they follow. It does not appear in the notifications.

2. If they do not follow you, it does not appear anywhere at all, not even in their notifications. They would have to view their post to see your reply.

And I did get a Direct Message (DM) from a Mastodon user who told me that she did not get a notification when I replied to her post, and gave me instructions on how to mention her.

So, it appears that Mastodon users are no longer notified if you reply to their post without mentioning them. You are practically invisible to them if they are not following you.

I tested in Hubzilla. If Streams can do it, I would love to see that in Hubzilla too.

It might happen. They are redesigning PubCrawl so that it supports conversation containers. Hopefully "silent" mentions sneak in too.

I still think there needs to be a reply button on the top level post (when you have replies to comments enabled). Not just for the expicit mention, but also because it makes it easier to quote parts of the original post.

Webmentions is a protocol designed for blogging, where if you mentioned someone else's blog post in your blog post, it notifies the blog you mentioned.

Sometimes this is just shown privately to the admin of the blog. Other websites show the webmention as a comment on their blog post.

Hubzilla supports webmention via an addon. I am guessing that if you mention a blog post, Hubzilla will send a webmention to their blog. It might go the other way too, where if someone mentioned a Hubzilla post in their blog post, a comment on your Hubzilla post would be created saying that someone blogged about you.

I am not sure how the addon works, but that is what it is expected to do since that is what the protocol is for. It might be one way or two way.

The protocol can be used for other things, but that is its primary purpose.

the way i do it is to click the reply button (4) of every person/channel (3) i want to answer and copy all the handles @{name-adresse} first into the Sidebar or notepad and than back to the HZ post editor

A really good feature would be to display a selection list of all the channels (handles) involved in the thread for a reply, i.e. a comment, after typing ‘@’, which also allows multiple selection and the transfer of the handles to the comment editor. If you continue typing after the ‘@’, the usual handle selection appears as it is currently used.
