Broken federation between hubzilla forum and lemmy?

I can comment and interact with communities on lemmy but the reverse seem to be not fully working. I have a test community test@utsukta.org which i can subscribe from lemmy but any public post i make on this forum do not get delivered to the users subscribed on lemmy. Is there any setting that may be misconfigured? or is this a federation bug?

and if i post as DM delivery rejected: 400 {"error":"object_is_not_public"}

Doesnt look like hubzilla forums are compatible.

Only a guess, but my guess is that it doesn't work because Hubzilla expects either a mention of sorts or limited permissions. Zot/Nomad channels must send what amounts to a DM, but all three ways of sending DMs are valid. For ActivityPub-based accounts (not sure about Friendica accounts and Forte channels here), it's sufficient to mention the forum channel in a public post. But Lemmy accounts don't seem to do any of this.

I have not tried from any other platforms yet.

The incompatibility is probably because lemmy makes all posts public and hubzilla forums handle posts in a different way. have fiddled with privacy settings but couldn't manage to make it work.

yes, sending a DM to the forum also doesnt work. very complicated!

@Saiwal AFAIK, it's possible to post to a Hubzilla forum from e.g. Mastodon by @-mentioning the forum in a public post. This is a convenience workaround so that users of Mastodon etc. can post to Hubzilla forums like they post to any other group actor such as a Guppe group instead of having to jump through hoops and learn to post in a way that's unnatural to them.

So either the issue is that Hubzilla expects forums to be mentioned from ActivityPub, but Lemmy doesn't mention Hubzilla forums, or posting to a Hubzilla forum from something ActivityPub-based is b0rked, but nobody knows because nobody ever posts to a Hubzilla forum from something ActivityPub-based.

@Saiwal it will only work if they can do a direct message to the forum and the direct message is recognised as such by hubzilla.

Can you post the payload of a direct message coming from lemmy?

@Mario Vavti I seem to have a found a workaround. typically a hubzilla forum https://utsukta.org/channel/test shows up as https://lemmy.world/c/test@utsukta.org where DMs aren't allowed but if we manually navigate to https://lemmy.world/u/test@utsukta.org it allows to send a DM which then gets posted by the hubzilla channel. Its not intuitive but it can be made to work.
