Now if you think that Mastodon had ActivityPub first: Nope.

Hubzilla added ActivityPub support on July 18th, 2017. Hubzilla was the very first project to support ActivityPub.

Mastodon added ActivityPub support on September 3rd, 2017. One and a half months after Hubzilla.

The Fediverse wasn't invented with Mastodon either.

The term "Fediverse" was first used on May 25th, 2012 by Mark Eckenwiler on Twitter. (Archived link)

Besides, Hubzilla itself was renamed from a fork of what became Friendica. And even before that, there was StatusNet.

if people took the trouble to consider the advantages hubzilla / streams have over mastodon, that would be the case. but only a few people are tech-affin, like to figure things out, and most of us are lazy. mastodon's simplicity is it's main and only advantage.
