@Matthias ✔ To many devs in the Fediverse, not all fortunately, the Fediverse has always only been Mastodon.

Like, they've escaped from Twitter to Mastodon in November, 2022. All they knew about the Fediverse was mastodon.social.

March, 2023: The Fediverse (== Mastodon to them) is totally awesome. They decide to build something for it. Since they "know" that the Fediverse is the Mastodon network and nothing more, they build it straight against Mastodon and only Mastodon. It's easier than to hassle with ActivityPub anyway.

August, 2023: WTF? What's that Friendica thing? You mean the Fediverse is not only Mastodon? I mean, like, seriously?! And it's so much different from Mastodon? Why did they make it so much different from Mastodon if Mastodon is perfectly fine and the Fediverse standard? What do you mean they made it before Mastodon? Like, six years before Mastodon?! There's been stuff in the Fediverse before Gargron invented it?! WTF?!? Yeah, no, I can't make my project compatible with Friendica. It's built against Mastodon. I'd have to rewrite literally everything from scratch.

Alternatively, July, 2024: The Fediverse is still only Mastodon.

Alternatively: I only build my stuff against what everyone uses. And that's Mastodon and the iPhone.

Is it built against Mastodon's and only Mastodon's inner workings? Wouldn't it even work with anything else if it tried?

Is Mastodon really the only server application in the Fediverse from which the number of posts with alt-text can be acquired?

if that was the case it'd be strange if akkoma, iceshrimp, and gotosocial aren't present when they also have mastodon api support

Or is it actually because alt-text is only widespread on Mastodon, and absolutely all instances of everything else have well under 20% posts with alt-text

alt text is also quite common on pleroma and misskey (forks) so it probably isn't that either

Does it actively filter out all instances that don't report as "mastodon"?
