Does anyone have any experience with Write.as? I'm looking to start a blog and I appreciate the minimalist style. I'm a little worried its too minimalist though.

write.as
is only the "lighthouse instance" of a project named
WriteFreely
. And write.as requires payment AFAIK.
I'm on WriteFreely myself. And it's pretty minimalist. WriteFreely doesn't support comments. Not at all. Also, if you want to embed images or other media, you have to host them elsewhere and then hotlink them. WriteFreely doesn't have a built-in file host.
Both may be on the to-do list, but I don't know how high up they are.

Thank you for the input. I do know of WriteFreely but I was unaware there are no comments or file hosting.
My other choices are Ghost (though they are quite expensive) or Grav couple with a host like Bluehost.

The basic platform is actually free again! But you do get built-in photo hosting with a Write.as Pro plan (powered by our
@snap_as
service).
All these features are coming to
@writefreely
within the next few months -- we just build and test them on Write.as first before making it open source.

I think at one point I used

to back-end the images in a write.as instance/blog but ultimately moved back to my own software because it was less work ?

I found it a little constraining to not be able to include images easily. I appreciate that 'writing' is not 'drawing' :-) but I was treating the software more as a blogging tool, and for me that feels more like a mixed media.

I've yet to include an image in any of my blog posts on WriteFreely (and figure out where to put the long image description), but I'm in the lucky situation of having a Hubzilla hub at hand. I could use that to park my image files.
But certainly, the built-in image host is still one of Plume's few killer features over WriteFreely.

Thats good to know. I dont mind paying, but tgere arw wome featured beyond image hosting I'd be missing.
