If you make a product for clueless people,
only clueless people will like it.
Like Ubuntu.
Everytime I'm using it, it feels like my thumbs were cut off.
Kubuntu is a little bit better, but I'm still missing something like Yast.

So it's getting worse? The last time I touched Ubuntu was a decade ago.

I am one of those clueless people
Debian for "production", Linux Mint (Ubuntu) for the family. Are there better alternatives around? That was my thought. I keep trying different OSs during the years but keep coming back to Debian. Debian ist damn stable. So I use it for programming and stuff where nothing should break after updates. Linux Mint (Ubuntu) is at the moment for the Ryzen notebooks we bought recently. That's more due to hardware compatibility.

Debian GNU/Linux Unstable since 2010. After a short period of tracking Sidux/Aptosid/Siduction (derivatives of Debian Unstable) I first moved to Debian Testing. A few months later I've dist-upgraded to Unstable and I'm happy since then. Mostly because I ditched fglrx in favor of the open source driver stack.
Fun fact: I never had to reinstall Debian even though I've upgraded my hardware several times. The hardest part was moving the system to a 4TB HDD in a BIOS system (moving it to a NVMe SSD two years later was child's play in comparison).

I'm not asking anybody, just saying it.
I am using Ubuntu for one thing, so I had to install it. When you work with it, it's quite painful. They dumbed it down way too much! So many things missing. Like: a clipboard.
I would use Debian, because stable, but I have this fixation about wanting the latest shiniest toys, so I'm using openSuse Tunbleweed w/ KDE. Sweet! Stable! Kernel 5.10.9.
Very efficient workflow (for me).
BTW: would love to have a Ryzen 5000 laptop! (I cannot put a heart emoji here because I can't see how, for fucks sake. UI again.

Isn't there an addon for this?

There is an addon, but this is one issue of many and I don't event want to start fixing them all. For this one use case Ubuntu works soso, for other cases I use openSuse.

Every 20 minutes or so I am looking at this thing for a few minutes. I wonder: is it the server where I'm at or is it the process of collecting stuff from the grid?

Have you tried enabling other protocols like Diaspora or ActivityPub yet? You won't discover other channels with these but you'll be able to follow and interact with much more people. Most of my connections are Diaspora or Mastodon users.

Yep, I'm learning that now. This makes hubzilla kind of a tough sell for your average FB refugee.

Hubzilla might be tiny but like others stated. Start with keywords, switch on Activity Pub and start finding people there in who you are interested.

Hz Kontakte bauen sich langsam auf... Selber kannst Du Kanäle finden und kontaktieren.
Über
https://z.macgirvin.com/sites
findest Du z.B. alle möglichen Server. Auf den einzelen Server kann Du dann unter
https://doman.tld
/directory
nachschauen was für Kanäle sich dort befinden und dir gefallen.

Uh oh!
I wanted to see what's doing down at Nomad (previous post). Turns out I need to enable JavaScript for each server I visit seperately.
Hmmm. I understand why. Federatioon and stuff. But still. Uh...
My friend Joe Sixpack over at Facebook would not mind though, as he's not using NoScript.

Well, this message is very unclear (image).
Did my connection attempt work or not?
Is this channel dead because "Last update: never "?
Uh oh.

The account probably has not posted anything new since you've connected with it. Took a while until I figured out that only new stuff of these accounts show up in your own Hubzilla instance.

Thanks.
I think these confirmations should be worded differently. Something like: You are now connected.. Or so. Just saying.

Oh man!
I wanted to give someone on a differnt server a like emoji, but I would have to log in there. Why?
Correction: On 2nd attempt I was not asked to log in and could select an emoji. Huh?
Even a simple thumbs-up like did not work as this waiting circle rotated forver.
Correction: After (quite!) a while it worked.
And why is there no Connect button on an individuals homepage, but just in that list.
Correction: Sometimes the Connect button is right under the photo. But sometimes not. Huh???
