If. What’s the point?

Richard Garfield’s golden trifecta is(if I remember correctly): -Trading Cards Game -Mana System -Color Wheel I believe that the first item, TCG, came out because WotC or it’s equivalent at the time wasn’t able to make the game Richard pitched, but WotC offered him the possibility of making a game with cards. My questions: What came first: the mana system, or the color wheel? Any insights into the iteration until they became what was released in Alpha?
