In the Mormon religion, this was called "milk before meat" when the newbies would be introduced to loving healthy Jesus and then later slowly introduced to absolute control and then ultimately the many different flavors of colonizing hell, the core of the many layers of the onion.

Which bible are you reading, @pascal macaigne? Matthew 10:34ff paints a rather nasty picture of Jesus. Obviously, those wankers in that chat group took their founder by his word...

The Bible, like all old texts, is really fascinating to me.

I'm not part of any religion, and I have no gods or God, so I can read with an open mind and I love to trace the oral traditions and commentaries that try to shoehorn religioys dogma onto the texts. Amazing acrobatics!

I like how Jesus is mostly portrayed as a human being in the synoptic Gospels, with nasty streaks as in Mt 10:34ff, or his hatred of Gentiles, whom he called dogs, but also really lucid, noble moments, like the Sermon on the Mount. Obviously, those who see him as a god-man who could do no wrong, have a hard time reconciling these passages...

Whatever. This kind of musing would be totally lost on the gun-wielding cultists who want to have a justification fir lynching other people.
