We need to "scruple" more in the Fediverse and elsewhere.

Quite a lot of this could be solved by no longer taking the Fediverse for basically only Mastodon or reducing it to US-based, semi-commercial or fully commercial platforms, one of which Mastodon has become long since.
To "scruple" means to discuss. Sorry to say, but Mastodon is just about the worst Fediverse server software for discussions, the worse, the more people want to discuss. Mastodon doesn't know threaded conversations. It's notorious for being unable to hold a thread together. And the more people are involved in a discussion, the more mentions have to be squeezed into only 500 characters.
What we need is something that natively supports groups. And there's plenty in the Fediverse outside of Mastodon that does, and that Mastodon is connected to. It could be Friendica or one of its descendants. It could be the Threadiverse (Lemmy, Mbin, PieFed). It could be the forum software nodeBB which has only just rolled out the first stable release with ActivityPub support. The tools are there, only that none of them is named "Mastodon".
Besides, the problems described in the blog post can be toned down or outright eliminated with something else that exists in the Fediverse, but that Mastodon doesn't understand, much less have itself: permission control.

as the now second-latest descendants of Friendica's software family, contains one of the most technologically advanced Fediverse server applications. It offers both groups on four basic levels of privacy, permission and moderation and the Fediverse's most fine-grained set of permission controls.
I've made a series of tables which compare (streams) and its ancestors Friendica and Hubzilla with Mastodon.
The interesting part starts with the "Security and privacy" table.
Seriously, clinging to Mastodon solves nothing.
