TIL that CloudFlare actually built and maintained their own ActivityPub software called Wildebeest and shuttered it at the end of Q1 2023.

That's wild.

@turnimunt@mastodon.social at least with CF I think there was always meant to be an end date as Wildebeest was meant to be proof of concept for their cloud hosting infra.

@Tondoni CloudFlare didn't even try Mastodon. The way they marketed Wildebeest made it appear like they wanted to go into direct competition with Mastodon and a whole lot of other non-commercial Fediverse projects and siphon off private data of Fediverse users. They particularly went for people who wanted to run their own instances.
