@Matt Birchler Of course, this couldn't be done purely on the app side. This would require server-side changes on Mastodon.

And like all Mastodon-only, not-even-remotely-included-in-the-ActivityPub-standard features, it would either completely leave out the whole rest of the Fediverse. Or the rest of the Fediverse would have to adopt a non-standard Mastodon-only feature by first having to reverse-engineer it. Again.

@Matt Birchler I just see it happen too often that people want stuff to be added to Mastodon with no regards for the rest of the Fediverse.

Like adding quote-posts which are already available on Misskey, the Forkeys, Friendica and all its decendants, but with a new opt-out switch that should keep others from quote-posting any of your posts. The suggestion included immediate defederation of all instances that don't respect that opt-out. Which would mean everything that isn't Mastodon.
