I think it's crazy that you have to think about your "public image" before you post something. People are fallible; putting an opinion out there is essentially a question to engage, debate and possibly change your mind. A public post should always possess an inquisitive quality, a question, not an exclamation. Even commentary on ongoing situations or public themes is essentially an opening for dialogue.
I think
#x essentially destroyed this kind of discourse. Intentional misunderstanding, mischaracterization or gaslighting first prevented us from establishing common ground on debatable topics, and now we cannot even be sure real humans are on the other end of the line.
This is why I like the
#fediverse as - at least as far as I can tell - you can still have a conversation. In my opinion, without that, we as in "we the ones not in power" stand no chance.
