So about #FreeOurFeeds and social media without billionaires: who do I have to give money to if I want someone to build a good alternative to Facebook? Built on #ActivityPub or other actually decentralized protocols? And who makes something I can convince my friends to use (ie someone whi uses as much time on UX as on anything else)?

@Audun Friendica is actually working on taking another step towards a better UX: image upload by drag-and-drop or copy-paste into post drafts. Something that has been discussed for Hubzilla as well, but that probably won't work because permissions couldn't be set that way.

No, the current development craze on Hubzilla seems to be third-party themes.

You can't compete with Facebook, It won't ever exist a replacement.

I came out to the conclusion that, in the social media realm, wins the platform with the highest grade of distraction and constant stimulation.

That is why Mastodon took over the other projects, by default it is an end-less stream of non-sensical posts. It is unbealivable but this is what the majority like the most.

Diaspora and Friendica prefer another paradigm based on topics and long post but unfortunately this has never paid off.

And as a matter of fact Diaspora is fading into the oblivious and Friendica struggles to survive.
