#fediverse Does anyone know of good instances with larger toot character limits?

I love my good long-winded rants and my current instance doesn't :(.

Probably not going to move fully and going to leave this as a Game Development and maybe Art account, which would actually probably clean up my account's feed a little.

@Moth Does it absolutely have to be Mastodon? Or are you simply unaware of the rest of the stuff out there in the Fediverse?

To give you a few examples:

Misskey has a hard-coded limit of 3,000 characters.
The various Forkeys (forks of Misskey) have several-thousand-character limits themselves, partly adjustable by the admin.
Pleroma and Akkoma have adjustable limits of 5,000 characters by default.
Friendica and Hubzilla have virtually no limits whatsoever. They're so high they don't even matter. I myself have managed to post over 77,000 characters at once on Hubzilla.
(streams) instances set up before June and with no database update are limited to ca. 65,000 characters by their own databases. Newer instances or older instances with updated databases are "limited" to over 20,000,000 characters. They're basically as unlimited as Friendica and Hubzilla.

Just beware: Not exactly few Mastodon users will lash out against everyone who breaks Mastodon's unwritten rule of never posting more than 500 characters at once.

Also, Mastodon rejects posts over 100,000 characters. I think Pleroma and Akkoma reject posts over 50,000 characters. This limit might be even lower on Misskey and the Forkeys.

That is, if you fancy a purist, distraction-free long-form blogging environment à la Medium, take a look at WriteFreely. Downsides: You can't follow anyone from there, and nobody can react upon your posts in any way.
