Profiles (vs channels)

Hi,

I wonder if I can use Profiles to have some variants of my channel to post there different content (also with ActivityPub accounts), for example, a profile for content in Catalan, another for content in English. Is it possible? I suppose it is not, and I need to use several channels for it, because, in my limited understanding, I think several profiles from the same channel share the same ostatus "address" mychannel@hub.myhubzillaintance, don't they?

Profiles = same content, same identity, but different information about that identity. You can have one default public profile that's devoid of private information + one profile for workmates + one profile for your booze buddies + one profile for family or whatever. But it's always the same @arbocenc with the same content, just showing different sides of himself.

Channels = different identity, different content.

I think what @arbocenc refers to is that you can share content to members of different profiles. So that it should be possible to assign one profile to people who you wish to communicate in Catalan, and one to others that you communicate to in English. By sharing a post with members of a given profile, this could work. (I have not tested it.)

Contections that are not on a Zot based system will all just see the public profile when viewing your channel.

Personally I use the "Privacy groups" feature for this instead. It allows the same person to be a member of more than one group.
