When I upload a picture to Hubzilla the usual way, i.e. with the Pictures app, I can't make it visible to everyone (e.g. people on Mastodon who read a post in which I've embedded said picture). When I edit the picture and then click on the lock symbol to change the access rules, there is no "everyone" option, even if I make all my albums visible to everyone.

Okay, turns out that the visibility of each picture cannot exceed that of your albums in general, not even when embedded in a post.

So if you want people to see your pictures embedded in posts, you also have to grant them full read access to your albums.

I vaguely remember encountering this problem but had forgotten the solution. How can we make sure that other people don't have the same difficulty. Would it help if the solution is tagged with #photos or something in the forum?

The solution is to set the access rights to your pictures and picture folders in your channel role to Everyone. If you want limited access, you have to adjust it for every picture individually.

Unfortunately, you can't grant access to individual pictures to everyone when the general setting as per channel role is a limited one.

@ray peaslee I've yet to find a per-album access rights setting. At least I can't find any that allows me to adjust the rights of existing albums.

So AFAIK, it's all (via channel role) or nothing.

Maybe it's like the page that lists up the sites connected to a hub: It exists, but there's no link to it.

Should be able to adjust directory permissions from the Files app.

As I've mentioned before - these photo permission issues were solved some years ago, but they will require somebody porting them from Zap or Streams back to Hubzilla - and I do not claim this will be easy. This will even work for channels that used "expert" permissions without having the relevant knowledge or qualifications.

Eventually it will need to happen.
