Why do some people add the #AltText hashtag to random photos? Only because they added image description? Is that helpful to anyone?

@Alt Text Hall of Fame Maybe #AltText is supposed to help with finding image posts that do have alt-text for a change. And #AltTextMeta is for discussing it.

But I don't make these definitions.

@alttexthalloffame I don't know, but I'm curious to find out!

I only use the hashtag when discussing issues surrounding alt text. I think all image, GIFs, and videos should have alt text descriptions. It doesn't make sense to add the hashtag just to show it has a description.

I've seen similar usage of the Mastodon hashtag - tagging posts that don't seem to be related to Mastodon at all.
