@Rainer "diaspora" Sokoll Zumindest vom Alter her müssten die eher "Der Sozialismus, deine Welt" zur Jugendweihe bekommen haben statt "Weltall Erde Mensch". Ein (un)gepimpter KC85 hätte ich auch gerne (jetzt) :-)

This is nice... I'm old enough to remember these stores and the machines. A Commodore PET has been the first Computer I've been putting my hands upon... with a Compact Cassette as magnet storage device...

But you can as well turn it around and call it "The beginning of the end of personal shopping" (and stores alike)...

Well, I've been a "late starter" at home. We had these machines only at school - if we were lucky enough to get a place in the computer club. The whole thing didn't really take off for me until I got my first own PC (386DX40). Until then I had to use my father's old IBM typewriter, which had 4(!) different exchangeable typesets and a weight of about 20Kg, while my friends already worked on their smart Commodores/Ataris/Sinclairs/PCs... I think at that time, VEB Kombinat Robotron had their first series out for quite a few years already. Sure limited in numbers and for a prohibitive price...

Oh ja, daran kann ich mich auch noch erinnern. Auf einem "Bruder" des TRS80 habe ich mit meinem Mitbewohner zusammen ein Bauphysik-Programm geschrieben. Video Genie – Wikipedia

Unter dem Namen Video Genie wurden die TRS-80 kompatiblen Computer Genie I/II in Europa vertrieben, in anderen Ländern aber unter anderem Namen so z. B. in Australien und Neuseeland unter dem Namen system-80.

@BOET As a citizen of the GDR, it was almost impossible for you to buy a Robotron. A friend of mine had a Robotron A5120 (with 3 floppy drives) in Army Green ... His father was a doctor and had some relationships. According to Wikipedia, the price was between about 32,000 and 48,000 marks. Twice as much as a Trabant 601 on the black market.

All others had to fall back on the black market or got one from the relationship in West Germany sent. My father had the Atari from one of our street and he had it again from West Germany i think.

And i was such a great idiot! At the reunion, I begged in a Aldi, or something like that, until I got a C64 II with 1541 floppy and sold my Atari to someone else ... I was young and stupid :)

Kann mich noch gut erinnern wie wir Computerfreaks in den Kaufhäusern an den ausgestellten Geräten Programme tauschten, programmierten und Diskutierten, während die Verkäufer oft nicht gerafft haben was wir da überhaupt machen. ;D
