When first Witchstalker debuted in M14, was Eldrain with more Witchstalkers already planned?

Not even remotely. M14 released in 2013, which means it was probably locked in 2012. Throne of Eldraine released October 2019, meaning it was possible even the basic concept of the plane wasn't on the radar yet.

Witchstalkers are an example of Magic seeding things for the future. Create cool things, and find places to bring them back later.

The only ones we know of were Dominaria and Azoria, IIRC. It was a very underused concept, honestly.

We know that Planeswalkers magically understand the local language when traveling… but what if a plane had several prominent languages?

In general, when there have been language barriers in Magic it has been because the language was either a dead language or one outside of the most common one in whatever area they're at.

But honestly, don't think about language in Magic too hard. It's always going to be a 'needs of the story' thing or 'learning it happens offscreen' in the same way we assume characters eat, sleep, and do other things we don't see.

Do you know what the status of Torbran and Rankle is currently? I came out ot MOM thinking Torbran was alive and Rankle dead, but now we get a Rankle card and no Torbran card.
