This is pretty important news for the Android world. For example, my old Samsung GT-N8000 tablet with stylus still works100%, but apart from no software updates for years, I'm now finding some apps won't install as the OS is too old. Yet, its old apps and handwriting stylus all work well.
So when I decided about 2 weeks back to get a new tablet, I deliberately bought an iPad Mini 6th Gen figuring at least I have a good 7 or 8 years of use of it with OS updates. If this announcement by Samsung was two weeks earlier, I would have given serious consideration to buying a Samsung instead. If Samsung could nudge it up just one year longer, they'd certainly hit a sweet spot, but four years of updates is way better than the two years we used to get in earlier years.
Samsung makes really good quality products, with features to match, so this move to a longer support period is just the reassurance that buyers want.
