David Ho Regarding the association between veganism and depression, correlation is not causation. There are probably dozens of reasonable hypotheses for how differing psychological profiles could lead to differences in dietary choices.
A casual DuckDuckGo search also turns up this interesting piece on meat-reducers having higher depression than either meat-eaters or vegetarians and vegans, which the author hypothesize might be linked to the cognitive dissonance of opposing the meat industry but continuing to eat meat:
