I tried to order some Christmas gift for my sister at Thornton's. As usual no problems, until I reached the payment page. When I tried to enter by credit card data (which worked fine in the past years) I encountered a "Billing Error". After some thoughts I think I found the problem: "Verified by VISA". I was literally forced to enabled this "feature" when ordering something from a German onlineshop - they didn't accept credit cards without this. So now I've got two equally evil alternatives:
- Let my bank disable "Verified by Visa": Some onlineshops won't accept my credit card
- Continue with this stupid feature: Some other shops won't accept by credit card
Whatever I do I lose. Why the fuck do credit card companies allow vendors to force customers in activating this stupid feature, and - if enabled - why tolerate that such a card isn't accepted in some shops anymore? What exactly am I supposed to do? Use Paypal - which did work flawlessly, and was in fact my workaround for Thornton's? I don't like Paypal, I just want to use my credit card globally.
