The conclusion of the U.S. Indian Claims Commission in 1978 resulted in a map identical to this, which reflected the various claims before the commission and its courts. In some instances, the land marked here as "unceded" was not necessarily land that wasn't included by treaty, but in some cases was land that was promised and reserved for specific uses (i.e., hunting lands). In other cases, the map simply reflected the original territory of a certain #Tribe or #Tribes within which claims for uncompensated takings would be recognized.
