Schwabenkinder (Swabian Children) in Arnach, Württemberg, Germany (1907). [
+]
The Schwabenkinder were children of poor farmers from Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Vorarlberg (AT), and Tyrol (AT) who crossed the Alps every year in spring and travelled back in automn until the 20th century mostly by foot to Württemberg (some also to Baden and Bavaria) to work as seasonal workers and so increase their parents' income. Their groops usually were escorted by a cleric.
If you understand German, I recommend the novel "Hungerweg" by Othmar Franz Lang. It's a wonderful small book that tells their story.
