Despite the fact that I hang out with lots of them, I am
not an engineer. I am
not a programmer. I too have been using Linux at home since 2006.
Linux has become downright
easy to use over the last decade or so. There are menus and GUIs for just about everything these days, unless you deliberately choose a distro that avoids them.
I highly recommend
Ubuntu MATE as a distro that has just about everything most users want — no having to go look for stuff to fill in the gaps of what you want to do — and it
just works. It's not the only distro that's dead simple to use, though.
